NEWARI

A descendent of Brahmi, the NeWari script is also known as Newar, Prachalit, Nepalakshar, Newah Akhah and Pachumol. It made its appearance during the 12th century with the palm-leaf manuscript from Uku Bahah as its 1st specimen.

This script was Nepal’s administrative language from the 14th to the late 18th century. Newari is used to write many languages like Sanskrit, Nepali, Hindi, Bengali, and Maithili. Apart from Nepal, the people belonging to the Indian state of Sikkim are also known to speak Newari and it is an official language of the state.
