TIGALARI
The southern Brahmic script, Tigalari a member of the Abugida writing system, has evolved from the Grantha script in the 12th century AD. Even today it is used by the Havyaka Brahmins of the Malanadu region. Languages such as Tulu, Kannada and Sanskrit are written using this script. The form of letters and symbols of Tigalari bear deep resemblance or similarity to its sister script Malayalam.
The oldest found record of the this script can be seen in a stone inscription at the Sri Veeranarayana temple in Kulashekara. This specimen dates back to 1159 A.D and the language of the same is Tulu. Various other inscriptions of Tulu, written using Tigalri belong to the 15th century.
