ODIA
Odia which is an Indo-Aryan language and formerly known as Oriya is spoken in the Indian state of Odisha (Orissa). From the earliest inscriptions dated 1051 AD found, it is evident that the Odia has been derived from the Kalinga Script. There are about 35 million Native speakers of Odia. The script is used to write the Odia language as well as a number of Dravidian and Munda minority languages spoken in various regions.
The earliest inscriptions in the Odia language have been dated to 1051 AD, written in the Kalinga script from which modern Odia writing is derived. Odia is a syllabic alphabet –abugida and the first standardized Odia alphabet book called Barnabodha was put together by Madhusudan Rao in 1895.
